Getting started
What to expect
Reaching out can be the hardest step. Here's how it works, from first contact to your first session.
See your GP (if claiming Medicare)
Ask your GP for a Mental Health Treatment Plan and a referral to Clayton McDonald at Stable Ground Psychology. If you're using DVA, NDIS or WorkCover funding, or you'd rather book privately, you don't need a GP plan. Just let the practice know when you get in touch.
01
Get in touch
Email admin@stablegroundpsych.com.au or send an enquiry through the contact page. Let the practice know whether you'd prefer in person (Fridays in Agnes Water) or telehealth (Tuesdays and Thursdays).
02
Complete your intake forms
Before your first appointment, you'll receive intake and consent forms to complete online through Halaxy. They explain how your information is handled, the practice's fees, and the cancellation policy.
03
Your first session
The first session is about getting to know you: what's brought you along, what's been happening, and what you'd like to be different. There's no pressure to share everything at once.
04
Working together
You and Clayton will agree on goals and a plan, and review regularly how things are going. With your consent, he'll keep your GP updated along the way.
05
For young people & parents
Young people aged 13–17 are welcome. At the first appointment, Clayton will talk with the young person (and, where appropriate, their parent or guardian) about consent, what stays private, and when information may need to be shared. Usually a parent or guardian helps arrange the first appointment.
Telehealth
Telehealth sessions run over secure video via Halaxy. You'll need a private, quiet space where you won't be overheard, and a reliable internet connection. At your first telehealth session, Clayton will also check where you are and who to contact in an emergency.
Confidentiality
What you discuss is confidential. There are limited exceptions required or permitted by law, such as a serious risk to your safety or someone else's, concerns about a child's safety, or a court order. Clayton will explain these at your first session.
